How to Reboot the SonicNet Equipment
If you have speed troubles or connectivity issues, here are some tips on how to remedy the issue before you call for technical support:
1. Turn off your computer (complete shutdown not just a restart).
2. Turn off your radio by unplugging the little gray or black box with the two green LED lights or a single yellow LED. These boxes should be on surge protectors so just turn the surge switch off (green/yellow LEDs go out) for about 1 minute. This will “reboot” your radio (attached to your antenna).
3. If you have a wireless router, turn that off for 1 minute as well (use your surge protector again if applicable).
4. Turn the surge protector(s) back on or replug both the gray/black box and router power cords and wait a few minutes for your system to reacquire an IP address.
5. Turn your computer back on and you should be back online.
6. Still having trouble, give us a call at 888.631.9666, select Tech Support, and have the number labeled on the gray/black box available.

The radio on your antenna is is basically a single function computer, so performing a complete reboot every month is a great idea. Just like a PC, the radio and router performance can degrade over time without some attention.

SonicNet reboots all of our transmitting equipment (servers, firewalls, DNS servers, Access Points and backhauls) at 2am CT the first morning of each month. This gives us about a 10-15 minute outage until all the pieces re-establish contact with each other.

Top Ten Reasons Your Computer
Can Become Infected with a Virus

  1. Your computer does not have antivirus software installed.
  2. Your antivirus software does not have the most recent virus definitions (not updated) or you forget to run scans.
  3. Your PC is behind in its Windows Updates (go to windows.com to check for updates).
  4. You have allowed a file-sharing program to set a folder on your computer as accessible by anyone, allowing a virus or worm to take over your hard drive.
  5. You download what you think is a music file, but it is actually a virus file and it takes over your computer.
  6. You click on links in email without questioning the source of the email (did you really expect to receive that message asking you to follow a link?).
  7. You open email attachments that you didn't expect to receive.
  8. You click on links in Instant Messenger (AIM) without asking if the sender actually meant to send it to you.
  9. You allow spyware programs to run on your computer.
  10. You have left the administrator password on your Windows computer blank.

Remember, your computer's connection to the Internet is only as good as the computer.  Any of the above issues will affect Internet connection speeds.

For more information about updates, please refer to the program's web site.

Other Computer Maintenance Tips
In addition to the above tips there are a few other things you can do to make your system perform better:

• Run your AVG or other antivirus updates frequently and make sure you do a full system scan at least once a week
• Clear the browsing history and delete your temporary files in your browser (see "how to" on our Useful Links page)
• Archive your old email messages in your mail client
• Never open unsolicited emails or pop-ups when you are browsing
